{"id":127,"date":"2007-02-17T00:57:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-17T00:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hobbitsabroad.com\/?p=127"},"modified":"2007-02-17T00:57:00","modified_gmt":"2007-02-17T00:57:00","slug":"the-skinny-on-hominy-or-posole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbitsabroad.com\/?p=127","title":{"rendered":"The Skinny on Hominy &#8211; or Posole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You got me thinking about hominy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 131px; height: 123px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dagiftbasket.com\/store\/catalog\/images\/cornbluekernelswp.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have had a yen for those roasted garbanzos, and since I got questions about that great hominy thing, I now want them, too!<\/p>\n<p class=\"Indent\"> <b>Hominy, also known as posole, or pozole<\/b>: large kernels of blue or white corn that has been treated with slaked lime to remove the tough outer husks of the kernels. It&#8217;s corn without the germ, it&#8217;s the same stuff used to make grits and hasty pudding.<\/p>\n<p>And let me tell you: hominy is tasty. It&#8217;s the ultimate comfort food, marginally healthy, but good for a treat.<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 178px; height: 152px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dagiftbasket.com\/store\/catalog\/images\/posolecornpics.jpg\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Like garbanzo beans, hominy comes in cans. Drained and patted dry and oven roasted, they will <i>approach<\/i> the goodness that they have in Peruvian cuisine; somehow at the Peruvian restaurant, the skin seems to be intact.
