{really, Royal Mail?}

Two weeks ago, T. sent a friend a card. From the post box at the end of the block. Upon the occasion of his deceased father’s birthday, so there was, you know, some timeliness involved in things.

He got the card, stamped April 25, last week. The box is routinely picked up from, so our best guess is that it was held in the sorting facility for awhile. For some reason.

TODAY T. received a package stamped MARCH 30 from the States. It was filled with Easter candy, and the score to an arrangement of a lovely Easter song. Which might have been useful, you know, at Easter.

So, so, SO OVER the postal service in this country. If you are of a mind to send baby announcements, recipes, books, stickers, socks, baby teeth, peppermint pigs, or letters, PLEASE refrain until we have established another home base. Which we’ll be able to confirm for you shortly. We are deathly afraid of Scotland losing anything else.

  1. My friend once mailed me a package in Scotland. From all the info I gathered after the fact, what I determined was that Royal Mail attempted to deliver it, but for whatever inane reason did not leave one of those red cards in our letterbox, whereupon it sat in their sorting office for a month, and then they sent it back to Portland. When my friend received it back, the gift inside was broken. Way to go, Royal Mail.
    I can’t count the times I became enraged at their ‘service’.

  2. Yes, but I have my own recent debacle with the USPS. Waiting for weeks to find that the boy had received his own package of Easter candy and a bottle of shampoo (helicopter parent) and the realizing it had been in our own mailbox, redirected after clearly visiting many places based on the markes the box bore. Evidently the recipient neglected to provide the correct address, and although it appeared that some tried valiantly, couldn’t find the end destination. Okay, so perhaps not the blame of the USPS 🙄
