OK, folks, we decided. The pretty little number to the right (found at Sears, of course) will be ariving here within the next couple of weeks.
With that, it’s time for sleep, to awake and decide on flooring….

I love it, because it’s new.
Yes, I AM an appliance whore, I admit it!
You know, I realize that I don’t mind the island as much as I could… if we were going to keep it, I’d vote to just cork tile that little area, and do the rest bamboo… but what I DO object to is the unused space next to the dishwasher. We haven’t really considered alternate ways to access that space if we can’t get rid of the island… How about a slide-across counter and pull up interior shelving units?
I’d thought of something pull-up / pull-out, but I’m not thinking so – there’d have to be, like, hydraulics or springs in there or something, so that you could load stuff in & still be able to get it out. I think that we’re just stuck with having to negotiate around a corner, and having this dark area into which all of the really old / disused kitchenware crawls to lurk, waiting for that one time during then year when you want a set of bamboo steamer baskets, or a potato ricer, or a food-mill. Truly – it’s going to happen no matter what; they’ll find a home, and they’ll make it dark and secret, so why worry? This way we’ve got them contained all in one place, instead of secreted (love that word) about the kitchen!
