You Didn’t *Really* Think We Were Anything Else?

Oh, dear.

You didn’t really come here to see gooey chocolate recipes and things done up in pink paper and ribbons, did you?

Sorry. Wrong blog. Death By Chocolate is over at Pille’s. We’re the practical sort over here. We have trouble remembering each other’s birthdays, not to mention a made-up holiday that is meant to express love via Hallmark.

But enough of our sour grapes! We had some really, REALLY good sourdough today! There’s nothing like a sourdough starter in a city full of distilleries to make you happy any day of the month. Sadie’s one happy bunch of bacteria/yeast.

Anyway, even if you do like candy hearts that aren’t black, we still like you.

  1. I need to enliven the Estonian rye sourdough starter in my fridge:)
And Nami-nami is blatantly NOT a death by chocolate blog. There’s plenty of vegan-veggie-non-baking-recipes as well. Though I must admit I got slightly carried away with chocolate recipes this last week.. Apologies:)
We’re off to skiing in Austria tomorrow – the winter has been miserably snow-less this year, so we need to head south to look for it..
Wish you both a good weekend!

  2. Slush, Thanks! We finally got tired of the old look, and broke down & revamped the site. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s far better than the old one – and we can’t even remember what that one looked like, really!

Jackie & Pille: do try the pineapple juice method for getting your starter going – it really is fabulous.

And, Pille, you know we only malign you because you make such fabulously professional desserts! 🙂

Jackie, we’re bringing Sadie out to sit in the sun on the dining-room table, and within a couple of hours she’ll have doubled & be ready for a good feeding … to make more sourdough bread this evening. You, too, could have one – within only 5 days!

  3. Slush, it was WAY too fun to make those candy hearts. I found them here.

Heee. Pille, I just love to bug you. I wish you a lovely weekend as well. We woke to bright freezing sunshine this morning, and we’ll take it gladly, snow or not!

Jackie, you live in Marin — all that lovely fog is where the SF yeast comes from! All the magic is there, you should give it a shot!

  4. Wow! Everything is changed here big time! Looks great 🙂

    I agree… if Hubby were to even “think” about buying me a card/chocolates/sexy lingerie(yeah right)… I think I’d have a stroke! LOL
