It really was a lovely, clear start to the day. And the sun set with a beautiful pinky tinge to the clouds… And then…
Apparently a full morning of sunshine was too much for Glasgow: we awoke this morning to find the world being … well, not smothered, exactly but battered in snow? It’s been alternating between full sun and gloomy darkness with heavy snow for the past three hours or so!
We’d been keeping abreast of the 10-day forecast, as we have some friends arriving next Friday. This morning? Nothing recognizable about the 10-day at all! It had said ‘rain’ for pretty much the foreseeable future, and now it’s changed to ‘showers / wind’, with only a 50% chance of ‘precipitation’ every day. We noticed the ominous change: ‘precipitation’ – that could be rain, or snow, or it may be icy rain, or wet snow, or it may be sleet … and with the temperatures hovering right about 5°C (41°F) and a wind-chill of 4°C (10°F), we’re pretty nearly guaranteed a need to keep out the thermals.
D. worked double time last week so that he will be home all week studying (at least in theory). He sits his final exam this week, a massive, multi-subject cumulative exam for the entire year. He sat the mock exam, and like many students, gave it an hour when he could’ve given it three hours or more. He ended up with a B, and since the mock doesn’t count gradewise, he’s hopefully gotten a good feel for where he needs to prepare for the cumulative — mainly he needs to polish up his filibustering skills so he can go on for a few more hours. Two more papers and his dissertation, and we can call this year in the bag.

Yep. I spent the day in the garden today and now it’s snowing like crazy!
break a nib on the exams…
Fierce winds and light rain in February is starting to sound like really good weather!
We may have had a crap load of snow, but now we are having full days of sunshine and temperatures well above freezing. Things are melting like crazy and I am feeling a bit more lively. Don’t give up. I’ve been told that May is the nicest month in Scotland.
