Sometimes, A Picture IS Worth A Thousand Words

Down the street from this place is Peet’s Tea and Coffee. Should you ever be on Fourth and Delaware in lovely Berkeley, California, the coffee at Bette’s is even better than Peet’s.

It seems as if temperatures in the United States have gone haywire. The Midwest is still undergoing wild, wet weather, hailstones and tornado warnings. Parts of Washington state are freezing cold — as in snow in June cold — and the South and West have been punishingly hot. Even the micro-climates are off-kilter in Cali — it was cooler today in Sacramento than it was 70 miles closer to the Bay, which is so wrong it’s an obvious sign of the Apocalypse!

But it’s still nice to be home.

Our adventures this week include meeting fellow food and knitting bloggers Elle and Jackie, meeting with D’s former professors from USF to get more input on his dissertation, meeting T.’s classmates from grad school who are celebrating the release of her book, and shopping, shopping, shopping, including for warm winter clothing. (T. is in agony and she’s only bought one blouse. Meanwhile, D. is smugly …done.)

The house is filled with the smell of bread, which indicates that D. has gotten over his need to sleep four hours every afternoon, and has finally gotten his second wind. T. still keeps very odd hours, but manages to appear mostly awake and coherent in conversation (she’s figured out that it’s possible to knit while asleep). Both will probably be completely acclimated just in time to go back to the U.K.~! Oh well — time enough to worry about that later. For now, the breezes are back, and all is well.

  1. I got so excited about a coffee house with good coffee — TWO, in fact — and then I realized that you were back in California. Rats.

Plus, it’s cold here, so my envy is complete…
