Yet Another Update

We are truly glad that we’ve both brought our computers with us, and that we have jobs & occupations which will let us work from wherever we happen to be, as we’ve heard nothing further from the UK Consulate nor from our US Congressman’s Office. So, we’re kind of just waiting, enjoying all we can of California while trying to remain calm about the whole thing.

Yesterday D. went out to photograph some Autumn leaves (yes, it’s still mostly Autumn here in California – except that we call it Fall, instead). While he was out, he decided to walk up the little hill (50 feet high, at most) outside our friend’s house, to see what he could see. To greet him was this pair of young bucks – probably twins – one of whom had already dropped his antlers. They stood and stared at him for awhile, eventually bouncing off down the hill.

The birds continue to amaze us, as do the squirrels. They have red squirrels in Scotland, too, but they’re much smaller than the ones in California. They also, of course, have the American gray squirrel, which is an invasive species there (someone thought they’d make for good hunting, apparently).

We’ll keep you all posted as to what’s happening with our travel plans, but unless they overnight our passports tomorrow (or have done so today) we’ll be delaying our return. This will cost us £75 (US $110) per ticket, but other than that, it’s just a hassle. We’ll be moving to another friend’s house on Friday, so that our friend B. can have his bed back (thank you, B!). From there, it’s just a matter of doing what we can from here, while canceling all of our obligations in Scotland for the immediate future.

For a while longer, at least, we’ll be here, enjoying the wilderness.

– D & T
