Spring, Glasgow Style

Nothing much to say, except that it’s supposedly Spring, here in Glasgow. That means that we’re only wearing 3 layers of clothes on top (a t-shirt, a sweater, and a jacket) and have given up on the long underwear underneath.

This is what we see, now, when we look out our windows. It’s all turning green, and coming into bloom. One of D’s classmates, though, said, “enjoy it – this is Glasgow’s summer! Get out into the sun, ’cause it’ll be gone in a week!” She was right, unfortunately: it’s started to blow, and rain some more.

But it’s still sunny, and we still have tremendous light coming in through these (single-pane) windows. Yes, it’s a bit chillier in this house. Yes, it’s a bit louder (and let’s not even talk about the guy Sunday morning hollering, “gie uz a pint!” to the gas station clerk). But … it’s blooming. And it’s green. And it’s probably the best flat we’ve had, here, yet.

  1. Hi, I have just been googling glasgow and read a few entries here on your blog. I will be attending a 1 year MBA in Strathclyde in the Fall of 2009. I have been looking at citylets.co.uk and mostly thinking that closer is better. Any flat hunting advice? Thanks.

  2. Augmento,

Your profile doesn’t give any way of contacting you, nor does your profile contain an email address. So, here goes, and I hope that you’re subscribed to the comments.

    1) Take a look at S1 Letting. They’re fairly good at having a selection of things.

    2) Closer IS better, but there are quite a few places within reach of your Uni by bus, as well. Take a look at The Bus Map to see which routes you’re interested in, but Strathclyde is very close to the city centre, so most routes run through there.

    3) Most of what we’ve found is that the letting agency is key. We’ve found that Goodearl Properties is nice, and responsive. We’ve also found that FineHolm was very professional. There’s another agency that we didn’t like whatsoever, but … we’re not going to mention them, here.

    4) If you possibly can, do check the place out during the late evening – say, around the time the pubs close. This will give you an idea of the worst noise you’ll have to deal with.

Other than that, do contact us, and we’ll be glad to advise.

  3. Just reading your blog has been really helpful. We have more time to work with you than you did and hope to learn from your mistakes. Of course, we will make new ones of our own and have started a blog. http://www.augmento.blogspot.com
We are really considering letting a place site unseen so getting a good agent is key. I will start sending emails to both those you mentioned. Based on your blogs you got a less than 10% response on most of your enquiries.

  4. Nice view! Pretty spectacular actually as far as views out of flat windows. My worst view was a cinderblock wall that was about 6 feet from my windows. On the up side, I didn’t have to worry about curtains!
