Sunny Glasgow?

So, this morning D. got up at 4:00 … to work on schoolwork. He says that he just kept dreaming about how to structure his survey questions, and it wouldn’t leave him alone. Doing a PhD is a bit … obsessive. Two hours later, it was time for T. to get up, so we could go to the gym. Did we go? No!

As you can see by the path, we almost got to the gym. We were within about 3 blocks. But … we looked around, felt how warm it was, saw that it wasn’t going to rain … [READ: D. abducted T. and dragged her off down a dark path -t] and went for a walk alongside the River Kelvin instead!

There are fine pathways, all through Glasgow, which are open to cyclists and pedestrians. This particular path would have taken us all the way to Milngavie (or “mull guy”). Instead, we walked until we were about where we’d be halfway through our gym workout and turned around to retrace our steps. We spent a good hour just walking, enjoying the views of the river, seeing the historical sights along the way (who knew that there was even such a thing as a Flint Mill, never mind that Glasgow had one?) We’ll have to take the camera(s), this weekend if it’s not raining (D., of course, would lug his whole kit, tripod and all, but T. points out that all that stopping, fidgeting with lenses, and generally mooning at the water might just defeat the whole point of morning exercise!). Despite the rain, it’s balmy; summer is still going strong. We can expect 16°C / 60°F as our high tomorrow, and we have the windows open today, because that’s become … warm, to us. We’re afraid that we’d positively melt, if we had to visit Southern California right now, with their 32°C / 91°F temperatures. Even our Benicia haunts might be slightly intense, as they’re at 21°C / 70°F. Truly too warm for us, nowadays.

OK, we’ll stop rubbing it in to our California family. We know, though, that when we’re having to wear our ice-cleats over our shoes to even get to the gym, you all will have … the weather we’re having right now. At which point, instead of walking 3.6 miles / 6 Kilometers, we’ll be … shivering at the gym, and sliding all the way there…

  1. It's broiling here–I'm quite cranky–this wasn't part of the deal moving AWAY from heat/humidity. Would be happy to share at least 10 degrees of heat with you!

  2. "Summer is still going strong" – man, we've really lowered our expectations, haven't we? I just think, well, at least I don't have to put the heat on!

  3. "Ice cleats"? You have to wear, like, crampons to get around on foot? Interesting.

If I could mail you some heat, I would. 🙂 Then again, it's been great weather for rafting and splashing in the river, so I can't complain about that.

  4. Goodness…I'd so much rather be there! The high hit 102F/39C today…and they don't put A/C on buildings around here. ARGH!!!

Hope you have quite a few more days of sunshine for enjoying the city!

    : )

  5. I had to laugh, unbeknownst to C, he just had the same conversation of "taking my camera while hiking/walking". They just don't get that the exercise doesn't happen with all that stopping!!!
