If I haven’t commented upon your blog, and I usually do, it’s because I’m desperately trying to catch up with the posts which built up while we were in Italy. I subscribe to around 160 different feeds, and some of those push out multiple posts per day, so I’m just now – after being back for a week – managing to get my reading down to below 1000 posts left to read. It may take a week or so more to catch up to where I’m able to really read at the usual pace.
It’s troubling, facing all of this buildup. I’ve gone in & marked thousands of posts as read, just to have them cleared away, in those categories which are more recreational than personal or educational – so, photos from the Library of Congress? Articles from Mental Floss? Cake Wrecks? That type of thing will just have to come through another day, or perhaps I’ll get bored sometime and visit their archives.
How does everybody else out there handle vacations & blog reading?

I tend to read the past 24 hours of posts when I get home and everything from before that I ignore/mark as read. I miss a lot of good stuff, but there's no way I could catch up! It'd take days of just reading blog posts!
When I have a vacation, I'll let you know!!

I have a strict rule of no more than 70 blogs on the reader. Period. Amen. That said, I just mark all as read to most of the news, graphic design and typography blogs. I'm pretty good at keeping up with the "friends" and "baking" blogs – though I'm not great at commenting as often as I should. And we don't even go on vacation – lol!
My solution is to not do feeds…at any time. That means I miss some great posts now and then, but if I do it's because I've been too busy in the non blogging part of life to read blogs…or even post on my own. Not exactly a great solution, but it is fair…everyone gets ignored equally.

Just mark 'em read and start over. Loved all the posts about the trip.
